confession #1: i'm high right now. confession #2: i googled "other terms for being high," but couldn't bring myself to use "crunk, smashed, six kinds of wednesday, toked, or twisted."
don't worry, guys, it's just a shopper's high. crack is whack, there's no hope in dope, drugs are for thugs, you booze you lose, etc. yes, i also googled that last sentence. busted.
back to my shopper's high. once a month-ish or so i like to pay a visit to my three favorite antique stores and go on a little jadeite hunt. i'll sometimes find one or two pieces, but i often return home empty handed. today's trip was like manna from heaven. there were dishes hiding in every nook and cranny of the stores. i returned home today with TWENTY SEVEN pieces! what the what?! take a look at my haul:

let's start with my favorite: the jadeite. i scored a mixing bowl with handle, a salt shaker (which i will use for cinnamon/sugar mix), a leafy plate, and a small dish. each of these pieces is unlike anything i already own, so i'm excited to mix them into my collection.

i'm also excited to introduce a few pieces of fire king turquoise blue into my collection. i was thrilled to find this modern swedish bowl and cup/saucer set. this was the first time i've come across any turquoise blue in my hunt for jadeite and i'm pretty sure i did a little happy dance when i found it.

and just look at all of the white that i found. it's classic and i know i'll never get tired of it. when i first started collecting fire king, i told myself i would just collect the green jadeite as decorative pieces for my kitchen. but then i realized that i don't want to eat off of my parents' hand-me-down brown dishes for the rest of my life, so why not collect what i love and actually use them? so that's what i'm doing. in fact, i love that the pieces are mismatched, but still go together so well.
take a look at today's entire haul:

when i add these pieces to the dishes that i already have, i'm looking at a decent sized collection. the game plan is to convert some of my cabinets into open shelving to display these beauties, as well as eat off of them.
of course i'll share my progress with you. just hold tight.
