lace earring tutorial.

today's post is brought to you by:

a giant freaking thunderstorm. if you ask me, a rainy day is the perfect opportunity to tackle a home project or a little craft that you've been itching to try for a while. perhaps today is the day to tackle this one. even non-crafty people can handle it. it's so dang simple.

lace is trendy right now. and i love a trend. i'm lazy so i'll take any excuse i can get for a ride on a bandwagon. inspired by this post, i decided it was time for me to lace up my lobes a bit. you're going to need:

1 large lace doily or two smaller doilies (i used 2 small doilies. available at craft stores.)
glue
water
earring hooks

step 1:

look for a pattern in your doily that would make a good shape for your earring. i went with the obvious circular pattern in the middle of the doily.

step 2:

cut out the shape you want. remember, you're making two earrings so make sure you make the shapes as even as possible.

step 3:

mix together equal parts glue and water in some sort of a container. i used about a tablespoon of each. dip each piece of lace in the mixture and squeeze out as much of the excess liquid as possible.

step 4:

allow the lace to dry for a while (probably a good 24 hours) and attach the earring hooks.

and voila! you've got yourself an incredibly blurry picture. and some really cute earrings.

i think they're yummy.

on a completely unrelated note, my parents just got back from bulgaria and brought me presents. i'll never be too old for presents.

safe travel bracelets made by monks in a bulgarian monastery. from the monks to my parents, my parents to me and me to you: safe travels to wherever this day may take you.

  3. Lovely lace earrings! Thanks for the tutorial. For me, rainy days are a great time to create lovely pieces of craft. I’ve got a bit of obsession with personalized jewelry making so I guess I will try to make something like this. Cute intro, btw. :D
