i've been bitten by the productivity bug. and that little critter is potent. after months of sitting untouched, i've finally decided to chip away at my ongoing kitchen project.
here's what i have done so far (excuse the clutter...there's no escaping it):

project accomplishments thus far:washed cabinetry
sanded 40+ years of dirt, food and grime off cabinetry
primed cabinetry
painted two coats of gray on cabinetry
removed hardware from cupboard doors
washed cupboard doors
sanded 40+ years of dirt, food and grime off cupboard doors
primed cupboard doors
painted one coat of gray on cupboard doors
and i have so much more to do. i'm feeling a little bit like this:

i've decided to tackle the bottom cabinetry/cupboards first and then i'll move to the upper cabinetry/cupboards/. i'm doing this for a couple of reasons. first, i'm sick and tired of storing all of my drawers down in the basement. call me lazy (because i am), but it's a bit annoying walking up and down a flight of stairs every time i need to get a piece of silverware. confession: i made chili the other night and considered sipping said chili out of the bowl rather than walk downstairs to grab a spoon. laziness is sexy. secondly, gerty recently discovered that i keep my trash can underneath the sink and has become proficient in the art of dumpster diving. and i'm sick of housing my trash on the counter.
things i still need to do:
paint a second coat on the cupboard doors and drawers
pick out new hardware
drill new holes for new hardware
wait a few days for paint to cure
rehang cupboard doors
repeat steps A-Z with upper cabinetry and cupboards
to summarize, kitchen projects SUCK.
Amen Sarah. I wish you could just go in and paint things and then see a beautiful result in a half hour. God speed my friend. What you've done so far looks great! If you have time to hang out the 26th or the morning of the 27th let me know. That's when we'll be in MI. I'll come help you with your project if you want!
