great things that the 1970's gave us:

earth day.

tina fey.

grease.

john lennon's imagine.
but with the good came the bad:

god-awful hollow core doors.
who was the idiot who thought these doors were a good idea and where can i hunt him down and gift him with a bee-hotch slap? i say "him" because a woman would never choose such a tacky option. the door pictured above is similar to the style that is littered throughout my house. and i loathe these doors. LOATHE. luckily, there are many solutions out there that can help you dress up a boring door without spending an arm and a leg.

jenny from little green notebook added thin trim and a bright coat of yellow paint to her drab door. so easy and so cute.

not only did martha paint her doors a fun and unexpected color, but she also added cheap nailhead trim along the edges of the doors. freaking martha!

and speaking of cruella deville, she also spiced up this plain white door with a dash of orange that really makes the whole thing pop.

the smarty pants club over at apartment therapy offer a whole plethora of door bedazzling ideas: wallpaper, blingy hardware, cute little friendly reminders and kitschy vintage adornments.

if the previous suggestions are a little too daunting for you, painting your door a color other than white is a good place to start. this grayish blue door from real simple is slamming. pun most definitely intended.
"sarah, how do you plan to dress up your doors?"
ohmygosh, thank you for asking! but i'm not telling you :) i've got a little something up my sleeve and i'm pretty excited about it, but i want to get it done before i share it with you. lately i promise you a lot of things without following through. and i just can't do that to you again.
were you lucky enough to buy/rent a house/apartment that has dripping-with-charm sort of doors? if you have them, don't tell me. it will just make me hate you a little bit.
cant wait to see what you do
