out with the old and in with the older.

i finally got around to putting away my new stash of fire king dishes...

...but when i added them to my previous collection, i saw that my tiny little display shelf runneth over. no photo. wha wha.

so i took all of my 'everyday' dishes out of the cupboards...

every single dish in this picture is a hand-me-down. in fact, i have never owned a dish that hasn't been eaten off of by someone else before me. i can't decide if that is gross or not.

...and replaced them with my vintage fire king pieces.

oh, and i grabbed my drill and took down the cupboard doors. impulsive much? if you ask me, this looks like the beginning of a full-blown project...

TIME TO UPDATE THE KITCHEN!

so here's the game plan:
  • we're talking minor changes that will make a big impact.
  • no demo.
  • lighten things up a bit.
  • new light fixture above the sink.
  • paint the trim white and the cupboards something like this:
okay, this is the only picture of the paint strip i could find, so ignore the majority of the photo and focus on the paint strip. the top section that's circled is tibetan mist. aka my dining room color. in order to make the transition from the kitchen to the dining room relatively smooth, i want to paint the kitchen cupboards two shades darker.

my kitchen has no wall space that needs to be painted--it's all cupboards and tile. see what i mean?

these pictures were taken on move in day. the current kitchen is still pretty similar, just more organized and accessorized.

and just so people don't mistake the interior of my house for a rain cloud (gray, gray, gray), i want to jazz up the back entrance walls with a dash of sha-zam:
this is serena and lily's persimmon. i don't typically gravitate toward bold paint colors, but i'm loving me some persimmon.

the pendant above the sink situation is going to be a tough one for me because there are so many ridiculously cute choices. i'm particularly attracted to the choices offered by west elm:

choices, choices, choices.

my goal is to finish all of this kitchen hullabaloo before the school year starts, so i need to get my arse in gear.

just think, this whole thing started with some dishes that needed to be put away. oy.
