birthdays are dangerous. mine hasn't even arrived yet (june 8th...have i mentioned that yet?), yet i find myself making some purchases lately and justifying them with the excuse 'it's a birthday gift to myself.'
my first birthday splurge is double sided schoolhouse clock from pottery barn. i'm in love with it. it's a heavy little mofo, so i enlisted the help of my brother for some installation assistance.
i wanted to hang the clock right in my back entryway. when my brother tried drilling into the drywall, a ton of white powder (cocaine? anthrax?) flew out of the wall and the screw wouldn't grip the drywall. oh eff. now my wall looks like this:

that's the beauty of this clock. i can see it from pretty much every angle in the house. love that. so if you ever need to know the time, give me a call and i will poke my head around a corner to tell you. except don't look at the time on your cell phone before you call because that will ruin the surprise.
and here's splurge number 2:
happy birthday to me! i'm just waiting for the buyer's remorse to set in.
and speaking of birthdays, happy birthday (tomorrow) to my mom!

Obviously too late now, but have you ever used those plastic anchor things? You shove them into the hole you drilled and the screw grips them instead. It works nicely if your hole is too big or you stripped the wood or whatever the problem happens to be.

abby, yes, i usually use those, but in this case the anchors wouldn't grip the drywall. but normally those are great.
ReplyDeletehappy birthday, mrs. ray!
