layering.

one of these days i need to get a decent picture of these fuh-reaking panels.

remember my window fail? check it out here. well, i've lived with them hanging in my living room for a few weeks now. and they're growing on me. they're becoming a bit less stiff looking and i've managed to move some furniture pieces in front of them to hide the fact that they're about three inches too short. BUT. i'm still not in love. there's potential, but the panels and i aren't sparking quite yet. one solution that i think would make a world of difference is layering some sheers behind the panels.

this is the closest to the look i'm going for. nothing dramatic, but a little extra depth goes a long way.

this variation using shutters is awesome, but i'm guessing a bit more costly than simple sheers.

this room is awesome for a number of reasons, but just take a look at those layered roman shades. it would be so easy to DIY the striped shade on top of some cheap-o bamboo shades. i might need to tackle this for the guest room...

this is a pretty traditional look (vertical panels + horizontal shades), but done with a great combination of linen colored shades and sage panels. and that lamp? forgetaboutit.

i think this one speaks for itself. hot.

this could be done so inexpensively, but makes a big impact with the mix of textures.

again, this is the look i'm going for. solid on top of sheer.

solid panels on top of patterned shades? yes, please.

how do you feel about curtains? should they match the drapes? yep, i went there.

  1. We actually did the sheers thing in our bedroom. We have tiny windows but giant curtains and sheers make them seem bigger. Check it out:
