christmas has come early.

if you have known me for any amount of time, you probably know that my all time favorite movie is newsies. you know, the 1992 disney musical starring christian bale? about the 1899 newsboys strike in NYC? christian bale? i saw it for the first time in second grade (circa 1992) and have had a crush on (acadamy award winner) mr. bale ever since. i have fond memories of lying on my friend, katie's, basement and living room floor in middle school and high school singing 'carrying the banner' and 'santa fe' as we watched the vhs version. when i bought the dvd version in college, i watched the behind the scenes documentary in the special features over and over again. i can recite the entire script. "in 1899, the streets of new york city echoed with the voices of newsies. pedallin' the newspapers of joseph pulitzer, william randolph hurst and other giants of the newspaper world. on every corner you saw 'em carryin' the banner. bringin' you the news for a penny a pape. poor orphans and runaways, the newsies were a ragged army without a leader. until one day, all that changed..." i'll stop, but you get the picture.

well yesterday i got the. best. text. ever. from my big brother: "newsies is going to be made into a play!" are you kidding me!? i didn't want to get my hopes up, so i googled the crap out of the issue and finally came upon a worthy news source: perezhilton.com. read all about it here. but then i found an actual worthy news source. apparently it's been in the works for a while now. why did i not know about this sooner? if you knew and didn't tell me, i'm officially mad at you. if newsies truly does make it to the stage, i kid you not, i will fly to new jersey for the show. my inner cheapskate takes a back seat when it comes to my newsies.

anyone wanna come along?

  3. You should probably go with me since we both know all the words. That way when we sing our way through the entire show the only people who will be annoyed are the people we DIDN'T come with. :)
