you guys! this weekend was good. like wearing sweatpants and slippers to work good. like replacing fruits and veggies with donuts and cupcakes good. well, like
this. except replace yogurt with my weekend.
garage sale season is officially in full swing. this weekend's beautiful weather played host to some pretty great sales around town, including a plethora right in my own neighborhood. this kept gerty entertained for hours, but now i need to wash her nose prints off my windows. while window licker was busy playing guard dog, i was busy hunting down good deals. i'm quite pleased with my haul.

here's the whole stash. grand total: $16.00
let me break it down for you.

i'm pretty proud of these two leather suitcases. they're both monogrammed and in pretty great condition. not too shabby for $5.00 each. the same seller was also giving away the old shutter for free. i was more than willing to take it off of her hands. i think i've got a project up my sleeve.

right now the suitcases are being used in lieu of an end table. there used to be an actual end table there, but gerty took out one of the legs karate kid style with her tail. and i wish i was kidding. unfortunately, i did not find a sofa to replace that poorly slip covered POS.

i picked up this wrought iron doodad (for lack of a better name) for $1.00 at the next garage sale i visited. i really like it, but i'm not exactly sure where it's going to live yet. for now, it's hanging from my curtain rod in my living room.

as i was driving home and thinking about the endless uses for my new treasures, i passed third reformed reformed church and saw they were having a used book sale. it's not like i was NOT going to stop. i arrived during the last hour of the sale, so i could fill an entire box for $5.00. i'm pretty sure the volunteers thought i was on meth when i started foaming at the mouth. question: do meth users foam at the mouth?

i was tickled pink to find some more reader's digest books. my collection is growing.

a couple of food books. i love me my food.

i plan on using these books for crafts. an old atlas to use for cards and such and some roger hargreaves books to cut apart. did you love these books as much as i did?

i'm planning on framing some of the pages.

some books for norah bug. i can already tell she's going to be an accelerated reader. i'm an educator, so i can say that. but that's just my unbiased opinion.

and some summer reads.
did you guys get out there this weekend and visit some local garage sales? did you find any treasures, or was it mostly junk?
for all of you hollanders (or nearby residents), which neighborhoods offer the best garage sales?
I went to the town next door's library book sale. It was kind of a bust, though, and the books I did find, my dog ate in a stress induced panic when we left her in the dark for like 6 hours alone (oops!).
ReplyDeleteYour haul is pretty good (especially for $16)!!
kari, i definitely know what it's like to have a dog who likes to munch on books. no fun.
