art. for a lack of a better title.

T.G.I.F.B.I.M.D.I.I.D.G.A.B.S. (thank goodness it's friday because i might die if i don't get a break soon). can i get an amen?

one more day until spring break. one more day of lean cuisine lunches. one more day of a sweatpants-free wardrobe. one more day of a caged great dane. one. more. day. no, i don't have any major spring break plans, but that is absolutely fine with me. i'm looking forward to spending time at home cuddling with my pooch and scrubbing the house from floor to ceiling. but if you offered me a last minute trip to an exotic paradise, i probably wouldn't turn you down. hint hint wink wink.

on an unrelated spring break note, i'm having an art dilemma. here's what i'm working with right now:

and i'm not in love. i still like my fabric-filled hoops, but not in this space and not in this arrangement. what i'd really like to go above the couch is a large "art" piece. i use the term "art" liberally because i'm open to non-traditional art suggestions. i don't really care what it is, as long as it's large. i'd also like the piece to reflect my love of michigan. because i'm smitten with the mitten. here are some contenders:

this baby is my first choice thus far. the colors would be a warm welcome to the beige on beige couch/wall combo.

there's a lot to be a said about a vintage map. but the main thing to be said is that i like them a lot.

the artwork doesn't have to be michigan themed. this old art expo poster is awesome. another option. i also haven't ruled out DIYing a large scale abstract piece. now, i'm no monet, but i'm not completely artliterate either (do you see what i did there? ha!). these look do-able:

what are your thoughts? do you have any great sources for affordable large-scale art? which option listed above is your favorite?

also, don't forget to register for the target giveaway. time is running out. the winner will be chosen tomorrow afternoon.

and for those of you who are bound for warmer weather, travel safely. and suck it.

  1. I love Holland/MI stuff too! You've got to check out Katy Daisy - she has some great MI and Great lakes art. She does designs for Target so you might recognize some of her designs. She is just a free-lance artist from the prairie! http://www.katiedaisy.net/ (she's also on Etsy)

  2. I love maps and globes (I have several all over my house), the vintage MI one would look cool! You should also check out Michigan Awesome apparel. I've been toying with getting one of their hoodies to lounge in. Love the Smitten with the mitten and lake effective!

  3. On our livingroom wall I've started a massive mismatched collage of pictures in black frames. It's great cause you don't need something huge, but it takes up a ton of space.

  4. sarah-i checked out katie daisy. so cute! she is officially bookmarked on my computer.

elizabeth-i want a hoody, too! i can't commit to a slogan, though. they're all too fun.

kari-i loooove a gallery wall. normally i'd be all about it, but i have a collage on the adjacent wall, so i don't want it to get too crowded. thanks for the suggestion!

  5. i have the smitten with the mitten vneck T and love, love love it. :)

my vote is probably the vintage holland poster. my only suggestion would be to have it custom printed on a canvas or splurge for a nice matte & frame so it doesn't just look like you tacked up an old poster on your wall. (those select visitors who are uneducated in "art" might not understand the high-end style of a vintage poster w/o a nice frame..) :) i am usually partial to maps but i like the pop of color that the holland poster offers. and i really like the grate dane piece but i think you would be better off with something horizontal. good luck! can't wait to see what you choose!
