frame fillers.

last weekend i went to ikea and bought a couple of 12x12 ribba frames. i didn't have a plan for them, but i knew that i liked the cut of their jib (if i ever open a beauty salon or fashion botique, i'm naming it 'the cut of your jib.' dibs.) rather than allowing the frames to collect dust in a closet while i wait for the perfect frameable photos to fall into my lap, i crafted up a little 10 minute solution. behold.

please excuse the photo quality. i am clearly not a photographer. deal with it. this project couldn't be easier. scratch that--it could be easier if you have a cooperative dog who will allow you to take a profile picture of her. that was the hardest part. here's what you do to make your own (i'm sure there are more detailed, specific tutorials out there).

1) print photos of subject(s). in this case, i used gerty and myself. the photos can be super poor quality because you just need the general shape of the head.

2) tape the photo on top of black cardstock or construction paper in a few different places. i taped at the top, bottom, left and right sides of the paper.

3) with the photo side facing up, cut around the head. be careful to capture as much detail as possible. this is what will make the head identifyable.

4) your silhouette should be finished now. glue your silhouette to some fun paper and slap that baby in a frame.

this project is not even close to revolutionary, but it's cute. it would be really cute in a nursery. i would like to make another one using gerty's profile and nail it above her dog dishes. we'll see.

happy weekend, ya'll!

  1. i wish you would have taken step by step pictures of the process. i am a little confused as to how you did this. do the photos have to be blown up? very cute project. maybe you could just make some for me?
